De in september van dit jaar opgerichte organisatie DemocracyNext voor het conceptueel ontwikkelen van op loting gebaseerde instituties wil ook intern volgens haar eigen democratische principes functioneren. Dat blijkt uit de vacature (pdf) voor operationeel directeur die onlangs werd opengesteld. Daarin staat onder meer:
'We’re not looking for someone to help us create business as usual – we’re looking to create a new truly democratic institution. How we establish our organisation needs to reflect the core principles that we adopt in our work; distributing power equally, channeling collective wisdom and enabling people to find common ground through deliberation, to create institutions that have real political and democratic power.'
De ambitie van DemocracyNext reikt overigens verder dan alleen de democratisering van het overheidsbestuur. In DemocracyNext: Replacing Elections with Deliberation, lezen we het volgende citaat van oprichter en algemeen directeur Claudia Chwalisz:
'It isn’t just about government institutions. We have replicated these models of decision-making in a series of other institutions. We want to provoke changes in the governance models of trade unions, sport associations, company boards, the big tech companies, school boards, and all sorts of other organisations that are actually much closer to our lives.'
